Dr. Asim Shahmalak, a highly esteemed surgeon specializing in hair transplants, has gained worldwide recognition for his exceptional expertise. Early Career
Initially trained as a general surgeon, Dr. Shahmalak ventured to the Republic of Ireland in 1990, where he served as a Senior House Officer in General Surgery. After qualifying as a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery in 1997, he earned membership in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1995. In 1996, he relocated to the UK and worked as a general surgeon in the NHS for 15 years.
Pioneering Hair Transplant Surgery
In 2005, Dr. Shahmalak began his private practice as a hair transplant surgeon. Today, his clinic primarily offers follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) methods, performing sessions with up to 3,000 grafts. Notably, he has provided hair restoration treatments to numerous prominent figures, including Dr. Christian Jessen, the renowned medical broadcaster recognized for Channel 4’s program, Embarrassing Bodies.
Beyond Hair Loss Treatment
Aside from specializing in male and female pattern hair loss, Dr. Shahmalak has pioneered eyebrow and eyelash transplant surgeries. Notably, he performed the first eyelash transplant in the UK, successfully treating a young female patient from Greater Manchester. Recently, he achieved another groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first UK-based surgeon to perform simultaneous eyelash and eyebrow transplants on a mother in her 30s from Essex.
Research Endeavors
In collaboration with the University of Manchester’s Centre for Dermatology Research, Dr. Shahmalak actively participates in an ongoing hair follicle research program. Led by Professor Ralf Paus, this research group focuses on studying the biology and pathology of the hair follicle as a microcosmic mini-organ, providing invaluable insights into fundamental biological processes.

Furthermore, Dr. Shahmalak holds the distinction of being a Faculty Member of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS).
Philanthropic Engagements
Demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact, Dr. Shahmalak actively supports Operation Restore, a charitable initiative led by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. This program aims to assist burn and cancer victims who lack the means to afford hair restoration treatments. His efforts in Pakistan, particularly in aiding victims of acid attacks, were personally acknowledged and appreciated by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
